LOTUS CHAIR
LOTUS CHAIR

Observations/ Problem
Sitting with friends, sit in myriad of positions but most of the shorter folks frequently used a crisscrossed or non-standard sitting position in the corners of their chairs. Especially when squeezing for unexpected guests.
Corner Chairs
Historical Corner chairs were used to fill gaps and allow for extra seating in the underutilized corners of rooms.
Mood Board

While studying abroad in Scandinavia I was inspired by the lamination process we learned about in the factories we visited. These two chairs by Hans J. Wagner were ones that caught my eye. They played particular inspiration in their organic shapes and silhouette created through lamination.
Design
Inspiration
“Danish Architect Hans J. Wegner; Is Considered a Pioneering Furniture Designer of the Twentieth Century.” Carl Hansen & Søn - Danske Designklassikere Siden 1908, Carl Hansen, www.carlhansen.com/en/designers/hans-j-wegner.

My initial ideas were for a collapsible chair that only had three legs based on corner chairs. Ultimately turning towards lamination to create a light wide backrest to allow for a relaxed lounging chair that was good for the company or curling up with a blanket.
